Tampa – The months of April and May are for berry picking and we have just the place to fulfill your entire berry picking needs. Starkey’s Blueberry Farm hosts “U-Pick season” for friends and families of all ages.

The farm was originally created by Trey Starkey and Aaron Derkson. Together, they both owned and operated different farms throughout Pasco County. However, this was their first U-pick blueberry farm.

“We started about four years ago and we’re currently one of the biggest producers of blueberries in Florida, yielding about 300,000 pounds every season,” said Damon LeMay, current Starkey Blueberry Farm employees.

Starkey’s berry picking season lasts from the month of April to the middle of May. Buckets and bags are provided for berry pickers. They also provide larger buckets for adults and smaller buckets for younger children.

Weekends are the busiest days during U-pick season.

“As soon as Saturday hits it blows up and goes to 700 or 800,” said LeMay. “Last year we had about 1,100 in one Saturday.”

Berries are $5 per pound when you pick them yourself, but if you’re in the mood just to eat and not to pick, there are berries available pre-picked for $7 per pound. The farm also supplies other local produce for sale such as watermelon, tomatoes, apples, oranges, melons etc. They also have water for sale to quench your thirst in the summer sun,

The entire farm was hand built from the barns and tables that hold their produce to the wash station customers use before going on their berry picking adventure.

Starkey’s Blueberry Farm has been in business for about four years in Odessa, Florida. They are open seven days a week from 7:30am to 7:30pm Monday through Saturday and 9am to 5pm Sunday.

The farm itself is about 90 percent organic, aiming towards being completely organic in the near future. They do not use any harmful pesticides on their blueberries. Instead, they use fish oil that keeps away the bugs and the birds.

They also have picnic tables and chairs available for families to sit and eat after you’re done picking berries. If you want to relax to the serenity of nature, you can also use their swing gazebo overlooking the lake across from the farm.
